Preschool Dance Class

This class is designed for ages 3-6. We offer different classes per age level to ensure that the proper skills are being taught for your child’s age level. The class will teach the curriculum of tap, ballet, and acrobatics. The class is an hour in length and we spend equal time on each discipline. This class is taught in a disciplined but fun and creative environment. Our staff takes time with each dancer to ensure that they are learning the proper basics of dance which will give them the coordination, strength, and self-esteem to continue on.

Character Jazz

Character jazz goes beyond a dance/technique class to teach students to be expressive and use their imaginations on a whole new level. This class focuses on performance, improvisation, acting, and being able to think, feel and react on your feet. Through various improv and acting exercises, students are able to take their dancing to new heights as they learn to use their dance technique to perform from the inside out!

Musical theater plays a huge part in this class’s curriculum to combine the joy of dancing with the art of story-telling, allowing students to portray characters and step in to the world of acting and dancing together as an art.

This type of class has the potential to help students with speaking in front of an audience, increase their acting skills, getting them to think on their feet, and best of all “want” to participate in class.

While character jazz assumes the level of the class to be equal to the student’s technique level, this class does not teach jazz technique. Jazz fundamentals are a must and the level of the class (Beginner, Adv. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) is the level of technique that will be assumed and utilized.

Ballet Class

Ballet is the foundation of dance and compliments all disciplines of dance.  Our program was created to provide proper training in a caring and fun atmosphere.  The student’s technique develops in the classroom with stretching, barre, center, and crossovers to classical music.  Individual corrections are made in each class to allow every student to develop to their full potential.  All forms of movements are taught, not just competition “tricks.”  Our ballet students not only gain a strong technique, but also discipline, grace, poise, and confidence.  These are skills that they can use in all their dance classes, as well as their everyday life.

Pointe Class

Pointe is when a female ballet student wears special shoes(pointe shoes) to dance on the top of her toes.

To study pointe, the student must meet the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled in two ballet classes/week for at least the last two consecutive years at Junior Ballet level (or equivalent)
  • Completed her growth spurt and be injury free
  • Be a disciplined, technical, and dedicated ballet student

These are the minimum requirements. An individual evaluation is required in the spring with your ballet teacher. The student must successfully fulfill the requirements at the evaluation to be placed on pointe. Please note that a student is approved for pointe individually, not as an entire class. In addition, a physician’s referral is necessary stating that the student is at the appropriate stage in their growth and physical development to begin pointe. Our program requirements were created to protect our students from injury.

    Tap Class

Tap is simply an expression with your feet. From the American culture of “Broadway” tap to a more grounded style called rhythm tap, students will learn it all! Our tap classes are designed to provide students with a solid curriculum of the fundamentals of tap, with a strong emphasis on style and execution of steps, building a tap vocabulary, and performance. Students will learn the foundational steps that will take them from one easy sound to multiple rhythms and making music with their feet! Influenced by greats such as Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly, our tap teachers our dedicated to taking each tapper to a performance level that is strong in technique and entertaining to our audience!

    Lyrical Dance Class

Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. Lyrical is a deep, personal, emotional dance that is known by its connected and graceful movements of the body. The rhythm and beat of the dance is synced with the lyrics and the mood of the song. Lyrical dance gained its name not because of the lyrics of a song, but due to the meaning of the word lyrical: having a poetic, expressive quality, characterized by direct feeling, and deep personal emotions. A solid, ballet-based technique is an essential component of this advanced style of dance, as is a facility with various other forms of jazz, some contemporary, and proper placement and body alignment. Routines are based around feeling and emotion, though technique is crucial, spirit and soul generally tells where the dance will go. Movements are characterized by their fluidity and grace. Of paramount importance in lyrical is the continuation of movement, flowing seamlessly from one move to the next. In lyrical class dancers are taught to hold out the move for as long as possible and are taught to connect transitions smoothly. In all, dancers are taught to connect moves, discover and express feelings, breathing, and portray all of this to the music.

    Acrobatic Dance Classes

Acrobatics combines a strong emphasis in strength, balance, agility, flexibility and motor coordination. Tricks are performed with one hand in constant contact with the floor. The class will focus on strength and skill building exercises and correct technical training. These classes will also include some jazz technique to seamlessly blend acro skills with dance movement.

    Hip Hop Dance Class

Parallel with the evolution of Hip Hop music, hip hop dancing evolved into the mainstream based on breaking, popping, locking, and krumping. This aggressive style of dance is used with any music with a strong beat. It is characterized as hard hitting involving flexibility and isolations. The feet are grounded, the chest is down, and the body is kept stiff. This style is very rhythmic and there is a lot of emphasis placed on musicality.

    Performing Companies

At Dance Dimensions we offer a more intense program for dancers who wish to perform throughout the year at area events, benefits, and competitions. Our auditions for these companies are held at the end of June. Our goal with the companies is to make them highly well-rounded dancers. We teach them proper technique, discipline, and advanced performance skills — the entire package of being a performer. Our philosophy for the performing companies is that they are training approximately 8 hours a week. Some dancers train more if they chose but our belief is that our performing companies should be well-rounded in and out of the dance studio, we want them to still be kids and be able to be involved in other outside events without conflict. Our companies travel to 3-4 local competitions a year, take master classes throughout the year locally and nationally and are proud to perform at area causes, such as “Dancing for A Miracle”, we are proud to bring our love of dance to children in need. Our companies are truly a family, our students form life long friendships with the staff and each other to bring the true meaning to the word TEAM and we teach them lessons to be carried out not only in dance but in life. Our teams have won may State Titles and many Regional Titles — you can’t argue with success!! You may download a copy of our Jazz companies rules and guidelines for your convenience.
